Hair Transplant – Sugery
Extreme Hair Loss- How about a Hair Transplant?
The quest for a cure for baldness is perhaps as old as the human race itself. The first caveman to have noticed his own receding hairline would have panicked as badly as a young executive of the present day would, upon seeing the first signs of baldness. Men, and once in a while women too, of the present day have various options ahead of them to get a hair transplant. From the very first case of baldness, men have been looking to work their way around it.

Though there are many people who say that being bald doesn’t bother them, a majority of them would be asking themselves “Why me?”, “What are the options in front of them?” For a long time, for people like them the only choice was to get a wig made and wear it.
Then the choice of getting a hair transplant arrived; a crude form of which dates back to 19th century. It was in the late 1930′s that Dr. Okuda, a Japanese dermatologist, laid foundation to the modern day grafting techniques, when he came up with a hitherto untried method of grafting.
Hair restoration falls into two categories. One is hair restoration by drugs and the other is through clinical procedures. The so-called hair transplant falls under the latter. Hair restoration surgery is supposed to be the most effective treatment for hair loss. The surgical techniques have evolved over the years, with follicular unit transplantation being one of the latest techniques.
A common question among a lot of people is whether the surgical procedure is painful or not? Dr. Robert M. Bernstein, Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Columbia University in New York says in his blog, “We perform our hair transplant procedures using long-acting, local anesthesia, so after the initial injections, the patient doesn’t experience any pain or discomfort.” But some patients do report minor pain during the post-operative care, although these days a patient suffering from severe pain is extremely rare.
Which brings to the next question; “How important is the post-operative care?” It is extremely important and it is advised that the patients follow the instructions given by the surgeon seriously. Some pain relievers and sedatives may be prescribed and regular washing, together with shampooing would be recommended. Proper hygiene is very important to avoid any kind of infection.
Another perception is that the procedure is expensive. There was a time when it used to be unbelievably expensive. But over the years, the cost has come down to a great extent. The cost of the procedure is specified in terms of cost per graft. The average cost per graft is around $5 in the US. The number of grafts required may range from 1000 to 3000, sometimes higher. The cost varies in different countries according to the facilities and techniques offered.
Getting a hair transplant done is not a big deal anymore. It is time to dispel worries about the pain or high cost may be dispelled altogether. Go get your hair grown, now!
